Capturing that viral video on YouTube or other website just got easier. This is cool, because even though Flash-based video makes it easy to view data on any device, picking it up and taking it with you for playback when you either can't find the right web address or when you don't have access to the internet isn't always easy. This is why I like applications like Bandicam. It’s a video capturing tool for Windows.

                      

Bandicam makes it possible to record a certain area on a PC screen, or on a program that uses the DirectX/OpenGL graphic technologies as a video file.  Bandicam helps you record video at near original quality while incorporating a high compression ratio. It provides performance far superior to other programs that provide similar functions. 

Its cool that the app supports so many different compression codecs. It also supports HD video as well. You can even use it to take non-stop video (like, a continuous 24 hours). The only real limit here is the specs on your PC, including the size of your hard drive. Large video files take a lot to encode and a lot of space to store.

Pro’s: Record modern games, support for modern codecs, support for HD video

Con’s: Only works with DirectX/OpenGL compatible apps, expensive for what it does

Conclusion: Sometimes pulling video together from apps on your screen is important.  While the obvious use of ripping video comes to mind, creating records of software demos and CBT based presentations for later use, or even sharing that fun video you find on YouTube is what Bandicam is all about.  The app is small and light, and works with a number of different applications, allowing you to capture video from a number of different sources.

I really like this app, but at $39USD, it’s a tad on the expensive side for a single license.
