ClamWin antivirus has some good features as well including Scanning Scheduler. However Scanning Scheduler does not work normally, it is only effective when the user is logged in.

Historically ClamWin has suffered from poor detection rates and its scans have been slow and less effective than some other antivirus programs. For example, ClamWin failed to detect almost half of the trojan horses, password stealers, and other malware in AV-TEST’s “zoo” of malware samples.Clam AntiVirus updates the virus definition and database on regular basis. It is a standalone and portable virus-scanner, but it has separate version for this purpose.

The antivirus also works as Add-in for Microsoft Outlook. ClamWin also adds an extension to Mozilla Firefox to process the downloaded files for scanning with ClamWin.The important thing about this antivirus software that it is not much trusted as it was less effective and poor in detection in AV-TEST’s zoo of malware samples.ClamWin version 0.93 detected 54.68% of all the viruses and threats in the test performed by Virus.gr during June 2008.

ClamWin was ranked 37th out of 49 products. During August-September 2009 it could detect 52.48% of the threats and attained the 43rd position out of 55 products. However, during September 2011 cNet gave it an excellent rating as 4 stars out of 5.
